The event took place in the city of San Pedro Huamelula, inhabited by the indigenous Chontal people in the state of Oaxaca, located in southern Mexico. The ceremony is part of a local tradition that has been in existence for 230 years and symbolizes peace between the Chontal and Huave indigenous groups.
During the ritual, the mayor declared his love for the animal, stating that the most important element in a marriage is love.
The peculiar wedding involves dressing the reptile in traditional clothing, tying its snout to prevent accidents, and conducting it at the local city hall. The ‘alligator,’ nicknamed “princess,” is transported from house to house before the ceremony, allowing residents to hold and dance with it.
Para cumplir con una de las costumbres más arraigadas en el pueblo de San Pedro Huamelula #Oaxaca, el alcalde de la localidad, Víctor Hugo Sosa, aceptó casarse con una lagarta viva y la ceremonia fue este viernes.
